Driver Assessments

Our Occupational Therapy Driver Assessments help determine if a person is medically and functionally safe to drive. 

We assess physical, cognitive, and visual skills, and provide recommendations to support safe driving or alternative options. 

Our Assessments Include: 

  • Evaluation of driving-related skills 

  • Advice on modifications or adaptive equipment 

  • Referral for driving rehab or lessons (if needed) 

  • Support for individuals, families, and health professionals 

Our experienced OT Driver Assessor complete both off-road and on-road assessments, reviewing: â€‹â€‹

What's Involved? 

Assessment includes two parts:

1. Off-road (clinical) assessment 

Completed by the OT, covering: 

  • Medical and Driving history 

  • Physical testing 

  • Vision testing  

  • Cognitive screening 

  • Road Rules testing 

 

2. On-road assessment 

Completed jointly with the OT and a qualified driving instructor in a dual-control vehicle. 

Physical abilities 

Strength, movement, coordination, and reaction time.
